Installing programs on Ubuntu Linux is not that difficult than it seems, as here is the tutorial to install Skype on Ubuntu Linux. There are two ways to download, install and run Skype messengers on any Linux distro, one is the using command line arguments and the other one is using non-terminals.
Here are the two methods to install Skype:
METHOD 1 – USING COMMAND LINE
Get The Appropriate Skype Package
For 32-bit
$ wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-32
For 64-bit
$ wget http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-64
NOTE: Make sure that you type the correct link here that is compatible with your Linux distro.
Get The Libraries
Now, in order to install Skype on Ubuntu Linux properly, you need some libraries files, which can be obtained by below command:
$ sudo apt-get install libqt4-dbus libqt4-network libqt4-xml libasound2
Install Skype
Once you have all the library files installed and appropriate Skype package, you can start to install Skype on Ubuntu Linux by below command:
$ sudo dpkg -i skype-XXXXXXXXXXXX.deb
NOTE: If you encounter any error while installing Skype on Ubuntu Linux, enter the below command:
$ sudo apt-get -f install
That is it! This is one method to install Skype on Ubuntu Linux.
METHOD 2 – USING NON TERMINALS
To do the installation of Skype you need to have setup file, which can be downloaded from below links:
NOTE: In order to have a smooth installation make sure that you have these packages installed on your Ubuntu Linux, which are libqt4-dbus libqt4-network libqt4-xml.
For that, simply launch Synaptic manager and install them.
Now Launch the Skype install .deb file (just double click it) and follow the instructions step by step in order to install Skype on Ubuntu Linux.
That is all. These were the two methods which would help you install Skype on Ubuntu Linux. You can follow whichever method you want and get the Skype program running fine on your Ubuntu Linux.
