Sometimes you will encounter a problem with the restrictions on your computer. To be more clear, whenever you click on a drive or a folder in your computer, you will get a message “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.” This occurs even if you are logged in as an administrator.
You will be able to run all executables on your desktop and will be able to open all documents on the desktop. The programs also will work but you will not be able to save any thing in any folder as it refuses to open the folder/drive in the “Save as” window.
The solution of this problem can be done by using the Microsoft Management Console to fix issues with access permissions.TGA. The procedure is as follows..
-
Click Start > Run. Type MMC and then click OK.
-
Click Console and then click Add/remove Snap-in.
-
In the Add/remove Snap-in dialog box, click Add.
-
In the Add Standalone Snap-in list, click Group Policy, and then click Add.
-
In the Group Policy object window, click Finish.
-
Click Close, and then click OK.
-
Go to Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates.
-
Click Desktop.
-
In the right-pane, Right-click Hide my Network Places icon on desktop, and then click Properties.
-
Click Not Configured, and then click OK.
-
Expand Windows Components, and then click Windows explorer.
-
In the right pane, right-click Prevent access to drives from my Computer, and then click Properties.
-
Click Not Configured, and then click OK.
-
Quit the Local Computer Policy MMC snap-in.

Another question: on a laptop that I just pass the user can cancel a restriction which does not allow installing software? I want to install Join Air, a little program for net through wireless stick.
Any help please?

I attempted this fix, however there is no Group Policy in the list.
I am running windows 7. Is there another option I should be adding.
I have the same problem with this solution, using Windows 7.The "Add Standalone Snap -in List" does not seem to include Group Policy. Were your instructions intended for Windows 7?
You say: In the Add Standalone Snap-in list, click Group Policy Object Editor, and then click Add.
I say: Ther is no “Group Policy.”
What if this error appeared after attempting to open an .exe file, will this fix also work?
Hi! my problem is that i cannot access my usb. every time i tried to explore my usb drive, i get the error: “Operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact system administrator.”
i tried working with it in command prompt (cmd). i can see and copy my files, but i cannot write anything. i would also generate an error like “disk write protected” even though my usb drive has no lock or write protection.
