Sometimes you will encounter a problem with the restrictions on your computer. To be more clear, whenever you click on a drive or a folder in your computer, you will get a message “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.” This occurs even if you are logged in as an administrator.
You will be able to run all executables on your desktop and will be able to open all documents on the desktop. The programs also will work but you will not be able to save any thing in any folder as it refuses to open the folder/drive in the “Save as” window.
The solution of this problem can be done by using the Microsoft Management Console to fix issues with access permissions.TGA. The procedure is as follows..
-
Click Start > Run. Type MMC and then click OK.
-
Click Console and then click Add/remove Snap-in.
-
In the Add/remove Snap-in dialog box, click Add.
-
In the Add Standalone Snap-in list, click Group Policy, and then click Add.
-
In the Group Policy object window, click Finish.
-
Click Close, and then click OK.
-
Go to Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates.
-
Click Desktop.
-
In the right-pane, Right-click Hide my Network Places icon on desktop, and then click Properties.
-
Click Not Configured, and then click OK.
-
Expand Windows Components, and then click Windows explorer.
-
In the right pane, right-click Prevent access to drives from my Computer, and then click Properties.
-
Click Not Configured, and then click OK.
-
Quit the Local Computer Policy MMC snap-in.

Good Anup… It worked….
This is not an acceptable solution for those that are trying to hide drives and prevent access to drives for very valid security reasons (such as for kiosk computers). Both the “hide these specified drives” and “Prevent access to drives from My Computer” were configured on Windows 2000 domain controllers with Windows XP SP2 with no issue. Now the same policies are configured with Windows 2003 domain controllers and XP SP3 clients, and the restrictions error pops up. I found an article showing a hotfix for Windows 2000 clients, but not for XP. Guess I’ll be calling Microsoft…
You can compress steps 1 through 6 by typing gpedit.msc in the run command line.
nope, it didn’t helped me…..there are not any items in console tab to view!
R THERE ARY PROCESS BESIDE THIS??? PLZ REPLY!!!
