Sometimes you will encounter a problem with the restrictions on your computer. To be more clear, whenever you click on a drive or a folder in your computer, you will get a message “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.” This occurs even if you are logged in as an administrator.
You will be able to run all executables on your desktop and will be able to open all documents on the desktop. The programs also will work but you will not be able to save any thing in any folder as it refuses to open the folder/drive in the “Save as” window.
The solution of this problem can be done by using the Microsoft Management Console to fix issues with access permissions.TGA. The procedure is as follows..
-
Click Start > Run. Type MMC and then click OK.
-
Click Console and then click Add/remove Snap-in.
-
In the Add/remove Snap-in dialog box, click Add.
-
In the Add Standalone Snap-in list, click Group Policy, and then click Add.
-
In the Group Policy object window, click Finish.
-
Click Close, and then click OK.
-
Go to Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates.
-
Click Desktop.
-
In the right-pane, Right-click Hide my Network Places icon on desktop, and then click Properties.
-
Click Not Configured, and then click OK.
-
Expand Windows Components, and then click Windows explorer.
-
In the right pane, right-click Prevent access to drives from my Computer, and then click Properties.
-
Click Not Configured, and then click OK.
-
Quit the Local Computer Policy MMC snap-in.
I did all the above, do I need to save the console?
i think there are two possible cases for this error from my search thru multiple webboards
1) your system admin…..the one at work or the domain u connect to implement the control. So far i haven’t found a way to get thru this but i am thinking that u can change this thru the registry
2) if you open you ie and it shows “Hacked by …… (something)” this would indicate that ur computer is infected with a virus.
can anybody verify my conjecture?
I receive “Operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer, Please contact your system administrator”, any time I want to access a link from my email to the internet. This is a recent issue, I had access to links from my email as of 2 wks ago. Oh, the system administrator, that would be me and I didn’t implement and restrictions, this is a home computer. I followed the steps indicated on the top of the page to supposedly “fix” this problem. It DID NOT work. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS???
i just downloaded IE 8 to try to fix this problem and it is still occuring. I can’t open ANY links in my outlook emails without this error message popping up! Any other suggestions?

This is happening because you are not logged in as Administrator. You can access Group Policy and Registry Editor only If you have administrative privilages.
