How To Install Unix On Windows


Whenever we talk about installing an OS on Windows, then the only we could think of is by installing it on virtual computer using tools like Virtual Box or etc.

But here is a different way which lets you install Unix on Windows without actually installing the actual Unix OS on your Windows. This method of running Unix on Windows will run on all the versions of Windows.

Step By Step Guide To Install Unix On Windows

Before we start with it, you need to download the Unix installation file from HERE.

Now since we have the installation file, you can now download and install this program straight away. So just run the file that you have downloaded in the above step.

And then, go with the option labelled as Download without Installing option. And then click on the Next button. It would now ask you to choose the location where you want to download the files. So just choose it appropriately.

Now you need to go with the option marked as, Direct Connection and then click on the Next button.

It would now ask you to choose mirror server download. So you can click on any of them as it does not actually matter. And then click on the Next button.

And let it download all the required files. It would download files of around 20MB. So it would take time depending on the speed of your connection.

Once the files are downloaded, the Window which was popped when you ran the installation files will again show up. This time, go with the option labelled as Install from Local Directory.

Now you need to choose the path where you want to install Unix on your computer. And then it would ask you to choose the location where you have downloaded the files. Just browse to the location where you have downloaded the files initially.

Now click on the Next button and wait while the installation is complete. And to run Unix on Windows, navigate as

Start > All Programs  > Cygwin > Cygwin Bash Shell

And it would open a command prompt like Window where you can work on Unix. This is how you can install Unix on Windows and run it with out any hassle and waste of time.
