In this post, I would let you know about the steps to use Mac as an electric guitar amp. I would be sharing two ways to use Mac as guitar amplifier. All you would be needing is a jack to connect your guitar to the Mac (audio IN) and that is it.
2 Ways To Use Mac As An Electric Guitar Amp
Method 1 – Use Garageband
- You need a 3.5″ jack to connect your guitar to Mac (use its audio IN)
- All the latest Macs come with Garageband (which can be found under applications) which would be used as the amplifier program
- Navigate as New Track > New instrument and start playing your guitar
- Use the program to bring out different sounds and make the most of your Mac
Method 2
- You need a 3.5″ jack to connect your guitar to Mac (use its audio IN)
- Get to the Utilities folder on your Mac and launch Audio MIDI Setup. Click on Audio Devices tab and choose Audio IN from the input source, put a check across Play Through and get going

There’s also a whole load of tools (which work on the Mac) which can be used. They also work out better after you use it as an amp because they have more features for editing etc…
