Eliminate or Remove the System Tray in Vista

Windows Vista and previous versions of Windows have a system tray which allows you to access programs with ease. The tray is placed at the bottom right of the screen. You might not want to use it as tends to give the desktop a congested look. You cannot eliminate or hide it  using any normal Windows function. But, here is how, you can do it with a simple registry hack.

  • Click ‘Start’ and type ‘regedit’.
  • Go to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Policies > Explorer’.
  • Right-click on the left pane and ‘New|DWORD (32-bit) Value’.
  • Type ‘NoTrayItemsDisplay’, double-click it and enter the value ‘1’.
  • Close the registry editor and reboot.
