Smart Keywords – Search specific websites directly from the Firefox Address Bar

Mozilla Firefox, The favorite Browser for most of the netigens including me has a very cool feature called Smart Keywords which lets you search specific websites directly from the Firefox Location bar or address bar. This feature is almost unknown to most of the people but it’s really useful. For most of the lazy people like me It is like a boon. This feature is used to create shortcuts to websites search box.

Basically, if we regularly use some website to search for something, there’s a good idea to use this feature. This lets you create a different keyword for every searchbox so that you can search from different search providers and websites without visiting those websites. The search can be done by adding a special keyword you set before the search term.

For example, if you use wikipedia a lot, then just right click on the search box and choose Add a Keyword for this Search. Then just pick a name, wikipedia or super cool database or whatever you feel good, and a keyword say w for example, and a bookmark folder like mozilla firefox where it will be located. After that, you can just go to the address bar and type w something to search, and the results page for that search will magically show up.

This trick can be used to set a different search keyword for different websites. If your default search is Google, You can set a keyword like y for yahoo search box and can search in Yahoo using y before your search term in the address bar and you will get Yahoo search results displayed. This is an amazing feature in Firefox and If you try this and I am sure that you will never stop using it.
