Gmail Assistant – Free Notifier for Multiple Gmail Accounts

gmail assistant Gmail Assistant is a notifier for multiple Gmail and Google Apps e-mail accounts. It accesses your accounts securely using IMAP over SSL, short for Secure Sockets Layer, a cryptographic protocol used for secure communication over the Internet.

You can choose from various notification options and alert methods. There are three notification options like ‘Any unread mail in Inbox’, ‘Any unread mail’, and ‘Unread mail with any of the specified labels’ and four alert options like ’Pop-up message’, ‘Chime’ and ‘Blink keyboard LED’.

You can then set the alert types you want associated with a particular Gmail account as pop-up messages, audible chime, periodic bell and blinking keyboard num-lock LED. The pop-up message contains the e-mail account address, sender, subject and first line of the e-mail. You can click on the text to dismiss the message, or click on the icon to proceed to the next message. A ‘Test Alerts’ button lets you test the alert system.

After setting up your Gmail account profile, by entering your username and password, and setting a color for that account if you so desire, click ‘OK’ and wait while Gmail Assistant verifies your account with the Gmail server.

The user should ensure that the IMAP address is enabled for his Gmail account. This can be done by logging on to the Gmail account and accessing ‘Settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP > IMAP Access’.
When minimized, an icon appears on your System tray and checks for new mail periodically. By right-clicking the icon on the system tray, you can select the option to ‘Tell Me Again‘.

If you want the profile to load every time you run Gmail Assistant, remember to save the profile before you
exit. Other convenient features include SOCKS proxy support, saving or loading the program and account settings in encrypted profle files, automatic profile loading. To run the JAR file, first install the latest version of the Java Runtime Environment ( java.sun.com/j2se ).
