Turning off monitor when not in use is one of the best ways to save power consumption of your desktop PC or a laptop. Often this is done using power switch of your computer. Here is an application which lets you Turn Off your laptop or computer monitor by double clicking on the system tray icon.

Dark is a free open source application written in .Net does this simple work of switching your monitor off directly from your desktop.

I wonder if this is worth the trouble of installing and having the service running all the time for something that the OS does itself automatically after a while …

  Sometimes you system will go into hibernation or stand by when your monitor is switched off by the OS automatically. This will prevent that from happening..
